Cloud computing is accessing computing resources like physical and virtual servers,

development tools, applications, networking capabilities, etc via the internet. A cloud

service provider or CSP controls the remote data center where these resources are

managed. The user has to pay the CSP a monthly or yearly subscription to access these

resources. Cloud providers use virtualization to make the most efficient use of their data

center resources. Maximum organizations use cloud today. Any user that uses a mobile or

computer uses cloud in some way possible. This could be Netflix, Google, or Gmail.

Organizations use cloud computing for various reasons. Some of them include

1. Speed- With the use of cloud computing services enormous amounts of cloud computing

resources can be provisioned extremely quickly. This takes a lot of planning pressure and

time away from the company and gives the process a whole lot of flexibility.

2. Cost- If an organization uses cloud computing, they don’t have to spend huge costs on

buying hardware and software to keep track of their data.

3. Global-scale- depending upon the geographical location, cloud computing can provide the

right amount of resources necessary. It could be more or less bandwidth or storage or

computing power. This means cloud computing gives the ability to scale elastically.

4. Productivity- Using cloud computing services makes a lot of tasks easier. For example, the

company need not spend time on software patching, hardware setup, and many other

time-consuming chores. And hence it boosts the company’s productivity.

5. Security- Cloud providers provide a strong and rigid security posture that helps protects

data and apps and sensitive information from any potential threat.

6. Reliability- On a cloud provider’s network, data can be mirrored at multiple redundant

sites. This makes disaster recovery and data easier and less expensive.

Cloud computing has several uses for organizations, some of which are listed below

1. To build or test applications – Cloud infrastructures can be scaled high or low extremely

easily. This reduces the cost and time of creating applications.

2. Store, and backup data -Data can be transferred to a cloud storage system which protects

data efficiently and at a massive scale. These cloud storage systems are available from any

location via any device.

3. Data analysis – Cloud service can be used to analyze data and look into its insights once it

is stored. Cloud services like artificial intelligence or machine learning are used for this


4. Stream audio and video – Streaming has been made easier than ever and a large audience

can now easily connect with various forms of entertainment and information.

5. Software is delivered on-demand – The latest software updates and versions are made

accessible to customers By Software as a service (SaaS)

Different types of cloud services are made available and each organization has to use the

one most suitable to them. The various types of Cloud computing are

1. Public Cloud- These are owned by third-party cloud service providers. These providers

deliver their resources over the internet for users to benefit from. An example is Microsoft

Azure. The hardware, software, and other supporting infrastructure and managed and

owned by the third-party cloud provider service or organization.

2. Private cloud- Some cloud computing resources are used exclusively by an organization or

business and these are called private clouds. Some companies might pay a third-party cloud

service provider to host a private cloud for them where the company’s data and resources

are safe and private,

3. Hybrid Cloud – A hybrid cloud is a combination of public and private clouds. A hybrid

cloud allows data and applications to move between public and private clouds.
